The Craig Girls (Jessie and Janie)
A few years ago a couple of young sisters, Jessie and Janie Craig from Seafoam, Pictou County decided to help raise some money for the Breast Cancer Foundation and to use our golf tournament as a vehicle to advance those funds. They began, at the age of 6 and 8, by creating crafts from items they collected on the beach and selling them to neighbours and family. During the past three years, with their Dad's (Jamie) help, they have made Garden Stones, prettied them up with shells, stones, marbles, breast cancer logos, handprints, etc., and have sold them to friends, family and neighbours. These young ladies give up summer time and fun to sit at dinners, festivals, etc., selling their stones and raising money.
Last year alone they donated approximately $1500 to the tournament, bringing their total for four years to more than $5000.
Jessie and Janie really do epitomize the spirit of the Richie Mann Invitational, and for that they are "Tournament Heroes."
Bald Is Beautiful
Long time tournament volunteers Nicole Mann and Allison Martell were eager to add a little something extra to the 2006 event! The two collected pledges leading up to the tournament and shaved their heads during the auction. The financial proceeds totaling over $3500 were donated to the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in the name of the tournament and the women's hair, approximately 14 inches each, was donated to Locks for Love.
"It was the highlight of my year! It was a wonderful feeling and an opportunity to connect with people who have been affected in a way that I never expected." Nicole explained. Allison added, "It was an emotional experience; having had family and friends affected by Breast Cancer, it was a blessing to be able to assist raise money for such an important event!"
